Education & career

It was at Exeter College where Roz began to further her music studies. Exeter College provided outstanding encouragement and diverse musical experiences. Here Roz re-discovered the thrill of performing.

Roz went on to complete a BA Hons specialising in jazz performance at Middlesex University. There she studied the saxophone for three years with leading British saxophonist Mark Lockheart. Under the guidance of the impressive staff at Middlesex (Stuart Hall, Nikki Iles, Eddie Parker, Chris Batchelor and Rob Townsend) Roz explored many aspects of jazz and became particularly taken with a more contemporary approach to this genre.

Since graduating Roz has enjoyed many different roles as a musician. She has worked within the South West music scene for many years performing in a variety of ensembles; some of her past favorites being Art Trip (the music of Art Pepper), TimeWasters (funk and jazz fusion), The Anglo-Sax Quartet (contemporary recital repertoire) Sketch (quintet playing original jazz compositions) and Marcus Vergette's various projects including Elements - a project based on improvising live to film, using the film images as the music score.

Performing live has become a strong focus and provided Roz the opportunity to play alongside some interesting musicians (including Mark Lockheart, Issie Barratt, Paul Dunmall, Alan Barnes, Deirdre Cartwright, Jaqui Dankworth, Harry Beckett, Mike and Kate Westbrook, Kathy Dyson, Zoe Rahman, Andy Tweed and Karen Street).

Roz can currently be found playing sax in the Mike Westbrook Big Band and Billy Bottle and the Multiple. 2013 see's the launch of a new project....WAVE
