Private Lessons

  • Saxophone tuition

  • Creative Improvisation and Performance tuition

I have 20+ years teaching experience. I am interested in an authentic approach to forging sound and improvisation - What is your saxophone sound? What does your improvisation sound like? I have explored and developed techniques to ignite creativity and freedom, and enhance musicians interested in expressive, imaginative playing.

I can devise bespoke lessons to incorporate specific needs, and use my experience to guide pupils into new directions.

I have helped instrumentalists and vocalists with:

  • How to play, learning the basics and forging a great technique

  • Grade exams

  • University/Conservatoire auditions

  • free-improvisation/instant composition

  • musicianship and communication

  • jazz harmony and theory

  • extended techniques, depth concepts, alternative stimuli and contemporary notation

  • individual performance projects

For the past 15 years I have also worked with young musicians in creative ensemble settings. I have been utilising my ensemble methods and experiences within 1:2:1 lessons - an approach to sit alongside traditional tuition or be a focused direction. Please get in touch if you are interested in booking a lesson. Lessons can be in person, online or a mixture.

The work Roz does with young musicians is nothing short of extraordinary. The premise is built upon the mantra of self-expression - playing what is already inside you, with full conviction and belief in what you are contributing to the music. It is truly a revelation in jazz education.

As a self-trained vocalist, I had never dealt into the realms of improvisation before and was admittedly terrified of the idea at first! But Roz could sense this and was very patient with me, letting me take my time to find my voice and be able to improvise freely on my own. This made me feel respected and responsible.
